Susan's actions
In the Home
Turn Off Lights and Electronics
I will turn off lights, electronics, and appliances when not in use to save energy.

Find My Starting Point
Not sure where to start? Across this sprint, the actions most participants are focusing on fall into three areas: minutes spent learning, pounds of CO2 saved, and plastic items reduced. Browse all five categories, but if you're feeling overwhelmed, look for 🔷 actions tied to these three impacts as your starting point.
Start Here
Share My Why
Before you dive in, take 2 minutes to share your why: What's motivating you to waste less this sprint? Post it to the feed so you (and the rest of us!) have something to look back on when things get busy.
On the Go
🔷 Create and use a Low-Waste Travel Kit
Having reusables ready and integrated into my daily routine can help to avoid single-use plastic while out and about. I will put together a kit with items like a mug, water bottle, utensils, or tote bag to take with me when I leave the house.
In the Outdoors
Reduce Light Pollution
Too much artificial light can confuse and harm animals, especially those active at night. I will reduce lighting at night or switch to wildlife-friendly fixtures to support healthy habitats.
On the Go
🔷 Refuse One-Time Items
I will refuse single-use items (e.g., napkins, utensils, condiment packets, lids) from restaurants and establishments when I don’t need them.
In Digital Spaces
Reduce My Email Footprint
I will spend 60 minutes unsubscribing from unnecessary email lists and deleting old emails to reduce digital storage.
In Your Community
Pick Up Litter Every Day
A clean community benefits everyone. Each day I am outside, I will pick up 10 pieces of litter daily to keep my community clean and share what I find in the event feed.
On the Go
Learn whether it is trash or recycling
Before disposing of items, I will check recyclesmartma.org to find out whether it can be recycled or needs to go in the trash. I'll do this once every work day during the challenge.

Susan Born 10/06/2026 9:22 AMI'm in this sprint as part of our library's progress in the Sustainable Libraries Initiative. We are trying to educate by example in our community as both an organization and as individuals trying to make our town and our planet a better place to live, for us as well as for our children.-

This is so exciting to hear, Susan! I'm not familiar with the Sustainable Libraries Initiative, but I will look it up and share it with my local library (if they're not already participating).
