Takeshi's actions
In the Home
🔷 Create an Eat First Area
I will create an "Eat First" area in my fridge to prioritize food that needs to be used right away for my household of 2. Doing so will prevent 0.34 pounds of food per household member from entering the landfill.
In the Home
Take Shorter Showers
I will shorten my showers to 5 minutes to save water and reduce energy use - each time saving up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water!
In Digital Spaces
🔷 Explore the Impact of AI and Automation
I will spend 30 minutes learning about the energy and resource impacts of AI and automation tools and identify 1–2 ways to use them more intentionally.
In the Home
Repair Instead of Replace
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, wood furniture, electronics, clothing, and more.
On the Go
Choose Secondhand or Refurbished
I will choose a secondhand (e.g., thrifted, resold) or refurbished item the next time I shop, instead of buying a new one, to keep valuable resources in use longer.
In Digital Spaces
🔷 Learn Where Data Lives
I will spend 30 minutes learning how data storage works, including where my files are stored (e.g., local device vs cloud) and how that impacts energy use.

Share My Why
Before you dive in, take 2 minutes to share your why: What's motivating you to waste less this sprint? Post it to the feed so you (and the rest of us!) have something to look back on when things get busy.

Find My Starting Point
Not sure where to start? Across this sprint, the actions most participants are focusing on fall into three areas: minutes spent learning, pounds of CO2 saved, and plastic items reduced. Browse all five categories, but if you're feeling overwhelmed, look for 🔷 actions tied to these three impacts as your starting point.
On the Go
Put Reusables Where I'll Remember Them
Reusables only help if we use them! I will set up a system that helps me remember my reusable bags, bottles, containers, or utensils — whether that means keeping them by the door, in my car, or in my bag.
On the Go
🔷 Create and use a Low-Waste Travel Kit
Having reusables ready and integrated into my daily routine can help to avoid single-use plastic while out and about. I will put together a kit with items like a mug, water bottle, utensils, or tote bag to take with me when I leave the house.
On the Go
Choose a local produce
Pick something produced locally whether fruit, vegetables, fish, or crafts, or tea. No need to leave a huge carbon footprint by bringing goods from the other side of the world when it can be replaced by something from your neighbourhood. Somethings are more beneficial locally, like honey!

Takeshi Oshima 10/15/2026 12:34 AMHere's the reason I am in.
1. Personal reason - living in Japan, where everything is wrapped in small portions, every Friday when I pack and throw away the rubbish, it just surprises me there is so much plastic wrappers. Earlier this year, I was in Phu Quy, and island in Vietnam, and the beautiful white sandy beach was covered with plastic bags, polystyrene, rubber ropes, etc. It made me think about starting a clean up business there! But before that, let's start small, something I can do around me.
2. As an organisation - since I lead the ESG initiatives for the Japan office for our company, I want to start a movement within the company and see a bigger impact.
